Breed Specific Grooming in Cornwall, ON

Your dog's breed has a signature look, and we know exactly how to nail it.

Why Breed Cuts Matter

A schnauzer doesn't look like a cocker spaniel. A poodle doesn't look like a golden retriever. Every breed has a traditional cut that highlights what makes them unique - the shape of the face, the texture of the coat, the way they move. It's not just about looks. Breed cuts keep your dog comfortable and healthy.

Some breeds need regular trims to prevent matting. Others need specific clipper work to stay cool in summer. If you've got a show dog or just want your pet to look like the breed standard, we've done it before. We work with poodles, terriers, spaniels, bichons, schnauzers, shih tzus, and more. If your dog has a breed-specific style, we can deliver it.

We serve Cornwall and surrounding areas like Long Sault and Ingleside. Whether you're prepping for a show or you just want your pup to look sharp, we'll get them there.

What's Included in a Breed Cut

Every breed groom starts with a bath using the right shampoo for your dog's coat type. We dry, brush, and detangle before we touch the clippers or scissors. Then we trim to the breed standard - face, feet, body, tail. For poodles that means a clean face and tight feet. For terriers it's hand-stripping or clipper work depending on the coat. For spaniels we blend the ears and feather the legs.

We also include Nail Trimming and ear cleaning in every full groom. If your dog's shedding like crazy, ask about our Deshedding Treatment - it pairs perfectly with a breed cut and keeps your house cleaner for weeks. You'll leave with a dog that looks like they stepped out of a breed book.

Breeds We Groom Regularly

We've groomed hundreds of poodles - standard, miniature, toy. We know the continental clip, the sporting clip, the puppy cut. Terriers are another specialty. Westies, scotties, cairns, wire fox terriers - we do hand-stripping and clipper cuts. Cocker spaniels, springer spaniels, bichons, shih tzus, lhasa apsos, maltese - all regulars here.

If you've got a doodle (labradoodle, goldendoodle, bernedoodle), we'll work with you to figure out the best style. Doodles aren't a recognized breed, so there's no official standard, but we can do a teddy bear cut, a poodle-style trim, or something custom. Same goes for mixed breeds - we'll find a look that works.

Not sure what cut your dog should get? Bring them in. We'll talk through options and show you photos. Our Dog Grooming page has more info on what we offer for all breeds.

How Often Should You Book a Breed Cut?

Most breeds need a full groom every 6 to 8 weeks. Poodles and bichons grow fast - you'll want to book every 4 to 6 weeks if you're keeping them short. Terriers can go a bit longer between visits, especially if they're hand-stripped. Spaniels and long-haired breeds benefit from regular trims to avoid mats.

Between grooms, keep up with brushing at home. A slicker brush works for most curly and wavy coats. A pin brush is better for silky coats like spaniels. If you're not sure, ask us when you're here. We'll show you what tools to use and how often. If your cat needs attention too, we also offer Cat Grooming - though breed cuts are mostly a dog thing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a breed-specific groom cost?

It depends on the breed and coat condition. Small breeds like a bichon or shih tzu usually run $75 to $95. Medium breeds like a cocker spaniel are $85 to $110. Standard poodles and larger breeds can be $120 to $160. We'll give you an exact price when you book.

Do you hand-strip terriers or just use clippers?

We do both. Hand-stripping takes longer and costs more, but it's the traditional method for wire-coated terriers. If you want a clipper cut instead, we can do that too - it's faster and easier on the dog. We'll talk through the options when you bring them in.

Can you groom my doodle to look like a poodle?

Yes. Doodles have poodle genetics, so we can do a poodle-style face and feet if that's what you want. Keep in mind doodle coats vary - some are curly, some are wavy, some are wiry. We'll work with what your dog has and get them as close to the look you're after as possible.
